Alexandria is the second largest city and a major economic center in Egypt, extending about twenty miles along the coast of the Mediterranean Sea in the north central part of the country.

My serial question for this course was centered on the waves of anti-Semitism that was beginning to emerge around the world. The majority of this hate, especially in 1905, was based in Russia.

The goal of this final project was to focus and analyze instances of ‘disease’ found within the pages of the Egyptian Gazette in the year 1905. Each student in the class was allocated a week to digitize the paper’s contents, so the the year’s contents could then be searched and analyzed by each member of the class for their individualized final projects.

In the process of digitally transcribing the Egyptian Gazette, I was struck by how much of the paper was devoted every day to financial tables, commodity price lists, and information on cargo shipping.

While working on assignments for this class, I quickly realized that the formatting of my issue was very different from the rest. Many of my advertisements were different, the financial tables were all ordered in a weird way, and my Wednesday issue only contained six pages instead of eight.

It is an unquestionable fact that the British Empire was one of the mightiest and most widespread civilizations in human history. Britons and her subjects lived in places far apart and diverse, from England herself to, of course, Egypt.

I am researching the most common events publicly hosted in Alexandria, and possibly Cairo for comparison, and what this could possibly mean about the culture of the people. In order to do so, I needed to find every list of events in the paper.

For millennia, cotton has been cultivated extensively in Egypt along the banks of the Nile Valley. My serial question involves looking at a snapshot in the historical trends of the cotton trade in colonial Egypt.
