Weather is not usually the topic that comes to one’s mind when they begin to talk about ancient Egypt. However, myself being an upcoming meteorologist, I look for weather in anything because, not only does it stimulate my current interests, but also engages me in other topics.

While looking through the Egyptian Gazette I found a plethora of interesting articles on varying subjects, but the most interesting articles to me were about the Russian Revolution that took place from January 1905 – July 1907.

During the time in which the Egyptian Gazette was being produced in Alexandria, the world was dramatically different compared to today. Lifestyles and occupations in Egypt along with the rest of the world had changed.

The Egyptian Gazette sporadically provides abstract accounts of various 20th century strikes. In particular, the infamous Khedivial Cairo Law School strike led by graduate students was mentioned in just two issues and discontinued.

A deep and intellectual discussion on the horrors of life

The Egyptian Gazette provides insight to the lives of people living in Alexandria, Egypt in the early 20th century. An activity of importance to these people is sports, particularly the sport of cricket, with weekly updates of game results.

For my analysis project I am looking at the various ways in which articles relating to archaeology were contextualized within the Egyptian Gazette between 1905 and 1906. As an archaeology major, I am interested how the writers of the Egyptian Gazette approached the subject of archaeology.

How has the murder rate in Alexandria, Egypt changed over the course of 1905? Something that stands out in The Egyptian Gazette is the rate of murders that the newspaper covers.
